Workshop on AI, Sustainability and Rural Communities

The Adirondack Research Consortium (ARC) will host a one-day workshop, “AI and Sustainability: Considerations for Rural Communities, Energy, and the Environment,” on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at The Hyde Collection in Glens Falls.
The workshop will bring together researchers, government officials, business and nonprofit leaders, educators, and students to examine the rapidly developing role of artificial intelligence and its implications for rural communities. Speakers and panelists will explore both the opportunities and challenges presented by AI, including applications in workforce development, public health, education, community resilience, energy, and the environment.
The program will feature a statewide and regional perspective from Senator Dan Stec, followed by a keynote presentation on AI and machine learning for sustainable rural communities. A panel discussion will examine practical applications of AI across several sectors, followed by a facilitated small-group discussion designed to encourage participants to share ideas, concerns, and potential opportunities for their communities.
